HAPPY JUNE!

I hope everything is peaceful, calm, and good in every one's life!

Well, the kids have ended another school year and I wanted to remind everyone to drive carefully because kids are always playing outside with friends when they're out of school.

I wanted to tell you about a program near where I live (you might want to check and find out if it's in your area too. I bet it is):

The public schools Nutrition Services Department sponsors a Summer Food Service Program. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided to all children at no charge.

Usually it's located in elementary schools, in the cafeteria.

It's for ALL kids. The school doesn't even have to be their school. They don't even have to be old enough to go to school. I used to bring my kids when they were young. The kids I'd babysit too. All the kids who wanted to go, could go. There were never questions asked. Just feeding kids. That was what it was about.

After lunch we'd play out on the swings in the playground and then walk back home.

In the summertime we'd go to the library also so the kids could do the reading program and win different awards for reading. A coupon for a free day of swimming at the local pool, a personal pizza at PizzaHut, I can't remember the other prizes. The library also has puppet shows for the younger kids and folks that read stories to the kids also. For the bigger ones, There are even computers if they want to go online. You can make sure the kids get a library card. and teach them all about taking care of books and all of that. -I liked to get a yearly pass to the Zoo and also to the Children's Museum. Those fees were reasonable and you can bring up to (I think it was) 5 or 7 extra kids. Those are just some ideas to do with the kids this vacation time. If you have a garden, maybe the kids can help you take care of the weeding and watering. Even mowing the lawn if it's an older child. Remember too, the local PBS stations have a lot of good programs for the smaller kids and even cooking, sewing or painting for the rest. Maybe you might even want to have a Yard Sale. The kids could look for toys or games they don't want anymore, or if there are older girls maybe they might have some clothes they've outgrown and want to get rid of, they could make some extra money. Also during the summer, some Movie Theaters show FREE movies. I think it was Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00 am the theaters showed G or PG kids movies at absolutely no charge for anyone! (of course if you want popcorn and candy and soda you'd have to pay for those.) Those are just a few ideas I wanted to share with you.

HAVE A BLESSED and fun SUMMER!-Missygirl*
