Persistence can get us many things on earth. Persistence with healthy eating habits can help us lose weight, lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Persistence with exercise makes us fit and healthy, giving us more energy and adds to a youthful appearance.*
Happy day to everybody!! -I'm still on with this healthy eating and losing weight thing that I was telling you about yesterday. I really want to work at it. I know it will do some good.
Can't hurt, right?*

One day, Ben Franklin found ants inside a small pot of molasses. He shook out all but one of the ants and hung the pot by a string on the ceiling. He watched the lone ant feast on the molasses, then climb the string, make it's way across the ceiling, descend a wall, and disappear. Within 30 minutes, a small army of ants appeared, retraced the lone ant's path to the pot, and ate it's collective fill. Ben believed that ants use some form of speech to communicate.*

I read this thing...WOW!! I thought to myself:
That man had way too much extra time on his hands!!!
If it had of been me, I would have thrown away the ant infested jar of molasses, got out the can of ant killer spray and hosed down the area, washed my walls and I think the ants would understand MY form of communication: KEEP OUT! *

just me. -Missygirl*

Hi Everybody!
-My mom sent me this and I thought I'd share it with you:

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house
nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
when I walked to the store {less a walk than a lumber}
I'd remembered the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
the gravies, the sauces, and beef nicely rared.

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
and the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

I said to myself as I only can
"You can't spend the winter disguised as a man!"
So-- away with the last of the sour cream dip,
get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie-- not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have a biscuit, no sweeties or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore--
But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy new year to all and to all a good diet!*

******************************

Well, everyone. Thank you for joining me today. I guess like in the poem, January does find a lot of us on a diet again. That's where I am. I can remember specifically stating that my only New Year's resolution was: to not make any more New Year's resolutions. I got so sick and tired of dieting being on the top of the list. Sometimes it would be alone on the list. Why do I have to always look for something about myself to not be satisfied with? Why do I need to look at my body with the words: "A Work In Progress" on my mind. I guess I am my own enemy sometimes, i.e...when I keep in the closet a pair of pants that I know don't fit me; when I feel the need to try on said pants, (this does not give me motivation. It makes me severely bummed out.) or, when I order one more Venti Caramel Latte with extra whipped cream after I know Dr. Phil said those were nothing more than hot milk shakes (and I believe him.) Little things like that can seriously get a girl down. But today I want you to know, I'm going to chill out. I don't know what a "chill pill" is exactly or I would go to Walgreen's and purchase one. I'm not even sure if you could buy them singly. They might only come in multi-packs. Maybe only at Sam's Club. I don't know. What I do know is: Today is a beautiful day. This is the day that The Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! I am going to try to eat healthier this year. (I want to cut out the sweets, white bread and huge portions.) I can do this. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! I'll keep you guys up to date. I'd really like to lose 20 lbs. or 25. Thank you for your friendship and good luck on the endeavours you might be undertaking! Blessings! -Missygirl*

Something to do
while your co-worker
is on vacation.
(just kidding of course!)

Blessings! -Missygirl*

Hello everyone -Thank you for coming to visit!

"My Beautiful Day"

I borrowed a poem from the sky
and music from a bird.
I stole a chime out of the wind
and from the trees a word.
I borrowed a song from the hills,
a Psalm from the silver rain.
I took the footsteps of angels
out of a cobbled lane.
From each little thing I fashioned
something in my own way.
With God's help I put in my heart
a beautiful, wonderful day.
-(unknown)*

Each day of life that dawns for me is dearer than it used to be
and I am more content each day to live each hour a better way.
I want for less, and ask for less, of all that life proclaims is best.
and find my greatest need each day, is just to worship God and pray.*

I COULD WHILE away the hours,
conferrin' with the flowers
consultin' with the rain,
and my head I'd be scratchin',
While my thoughts were busy hatchin',
If I only had a brain. -

Snow on the picnic table.
Hard to believe the backyard will
ever be snow free again.
But it will! -Blessings-Missygirl*

Hello Everyone!!

I have a story for you that I think you'll like and I also think maybe some of you can relate to this guy:
'Living with Snow' -diary of a Snow shoveler

December 8- 6:00 pm Yeah!! It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cups of hot cocoa and sat by the window watching the huge, soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Thomas Kinkade print. We even had a crackling fire in the fireplace. So romantic, we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!
December 9- We woke up to a calm quiet day and a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had! I shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!
December 12- The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment! My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice guy. I'm glad he's our neighbor.
December 14- Snow, lovely snow! 8 inches last night. The temperature dropped to 20 below.
The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came by this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so. Bob wanted me to sign-up for his snowplow service. I told him I could handle my own snow removal. I like Bob but I think he was being a bit pushy.
December 15- 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.
December 16- Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour which I think was very cruel.
December 17- Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should have bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.
December 20- Electricity is back on, but had another 14 inches of the white stuff last night. More shoveling! Took all day. The darn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snowblower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the City will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.
December 22- Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white stuff fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt 'til August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to pee. By the time I got undressed, went to the bathroom, then got dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. I tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter, but he says he's too busy. I think he's lying.
December 23rd- Only 2 inches of snow today and it warmed up to O. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she... nuts?!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did, but I think she's lying.
December 24th- 6 inches. Snow packed so hard by snowplow, I broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the S.O.B. who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his ears and beat him to death with my broken shovel. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been. Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas Carols with her and open our presents, but I was too busy watching for the darn snowplow.
December 25th- Merry Christmas! 20 more inches of the darn slop tonight! Now we're snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. I Hate this snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch "It's a Wonderful life" one more time, I'm going to stuff her into the microwave.
December 26th- Still snowed in. Why the heck did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.
December 27th- Temperature dropped to 30 below and the pipes froze; plumber came after 14 hours of waiting for him. He only charged me $1,400 to replace all my pipes.
December 28th- Warmed up to -20 degrees. Still snowed in. SHE is driving me crazy!!!
December 29th- 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I have EVER heard. How dumb does he think I am?
December 30th- Roof caved in. I beat up the snow plow driver and now he is suing me for a million dollars. The wife went home to her mother. Nine more inches forecast.
December 31st- I set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.
The City came by today and shoveled the sidewalk and presented me with a Bill for $300 for their services.*

Thank You for this new year
Lord Jesus Christ.
Please help us to live it for You.
amen.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With the coming of another year we are reminded that time is passing. The grains of sand are dripping through the hourglass; sometimes they seem to pass so quickly. That is a frightening thing for those who have no hope. But for those of us whose citizenship is in heaven, it's only good and it's only right. -Max Lucado

A PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR by, Billy Graham

Our Father and our God, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future. We each have our hopes and expectations for the year that is ahead of us- but You alone know what it holds for us, and only You can give us the strength and the wisdom we will need to meet it's challenges. So help us to humbly put our hands into Your hand, and to trust You and to seek Your will for our lives during this coming year.
In the midst of life's uncertainties in the days ahead, assure us of the certainty of Your unchanging love.
In the midst of life's inevitable disappointments and heartaches, help us to turn to You for the stability and comfort we will need.
In the midst of life's temptations and the pull of our stubborn self-will, help us not to lose our way but to have the courage to do what is right in Your sight, regardless of the cost.
And in the midst of our daily preoccupations and pursuits, open our eyes to the sorrows of the injustices of our hurting world, and help us to respond with compassion and sacrifice to those who are friendless and in need. May our constant prayer be that of the ancient Psalmist: "Teach me, O Lord, to follow Your decrees; then I will keep them to the end." (Psalm 119:33)
We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world. We pray especially for Your protection on all those who serve in our armed forces, and we thank You for their commitment to defend our freedoms, even at the cost of their own lives. Be with their families also, and assure them of Your love and concern for them.
As we select a new president and our other leaders this coming November, we pray that Your will may be done, and that You will grant to them an extraordinary measure of Your wisdom and grace- for they will need it.
Bring our divided nation together, and give us a greater vision of what You would have us to be. Your Word reminds us that "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12).
As we look back over this past year we thank You for Your goodness to us- far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on Your past goodness or forget all Your mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this year.
And so, our Father, we thank You for the promise and hope of this new year, and we look forward to it with expectancy and faith. This I ask in the Name of our Lord and Savior {Jesus Christ}, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come. Amen.
