Our Lord's greatest prophecy was delivered near the end of His ministry on this earth. In fact, this was given only hours before His trial and crucifixion. Jesus introduces an incredible challenge to our generation: "No one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen. Only the Father knows." Almost everyone has heard the warning that Jesus' second coming will occur at a moment of low expectancy. Such a clandestine prophecy cannot refer to the Glorious Appearing, for that will not be a secret and must take place exactly seven years after the Antichrist signs his covenant with Israel.
This Rapture Jesus refers to is a different matter. It has no warning signs.
There are no dates we can use for reference. He will come at a set time only known by the Father. So He challenges us all to be ready and live continually in a state of watchfulness. We must stay prepared, for we "don't know what day (the) Lord is coming."
Jesus used the days before the Flood as a metaphor of His coming. Noah had long warned the people to repent. In fact, he had preached as he built his ark for over a 120-year period. During this time, the people were "marrying and giving in marriage" (Matthew 24:37, NKJV). They had lived wickedly in the midst of Noah's warnings of judgement.
Individuals today hear the same kinds of warnings, for Jesus is coming again. But they still refuse to be saved. They have lulled their consciences into a false peace. They believe that since we have had almost two thousand years since Jesus ascended, He can't be expected to come in their lifetimes. Unfortunately for them -like those in the days of Noah- He will come. Those who are not ready (the unsaved) will be left behind. It isn't however, just the unsaved who need to watch and be ready. I am confident that many carnal Christians living selfish, unconcerned lives will regret their neglect of the Lord if they do not get their lives straightened out and recommit themselves to the coming Savior.* (from: PERHAPS TODAY -a 90 day devotional- by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins)
