What is important is how a man ends, not how he begins. -D.L. Moody

He said, "Come to the edge."
I said, " I can't , I'm afraid."
He said, "Come to the edge."
I said, " I can't, I'll fall off."
He said finally, " Come to the edge."
And I came to the edge.
And He pushed me.
And I flew. -Guillaume Apollinaire

Happy Spring! We made it! I'm so glad!
<>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <><

March 21,1963
Alcatraz, the maximum security prison
in San Francisco Bay, closed.*

******************************************
It doesn't take a lot of brains to be a criminal....In fact, intelligence could disqualify you.
Take the bank robber who tried to push open the door of the Security Federal Savings Bank in Durham, North Carolina. The masked man pounded on the door, but alarmed employees refused to open it. The robber fled, apparently not realizing that he had been pushing on
a "pull" door.*
In Hartford, Connecticut...a thief stole a purse with a cell phone in it. Police called the number, and the thief answered but neglected to turn off the phone when returning it to the purse. Police listened in and located the thief from the music playing in the store where he was shopping. "I've had a few names in my book of dumb criminals," the arresting officer said, "but this guy goes right to the top."*

Here's a kitchen tip for you: Butter the rim of the pan in which you are cooking rice or pasta to prevent the water from boiling over.*

I wanted to share with everyone an Internet site that I thought was a good one for kids. It's the Weekly Reader- online. It has activities for both kids and teens. Kids will enjoy visiting this site regularly because articles, polls, glossaries, and activities are updated to reflect national and world news.* http://www.weeklyreader.com
(Today, 4/27/2011, I was surprised to see that the online Weekly Reader isn't free and available online at no cost anymore! Doesn't that just figure! Everything changes. The sight only has options for subscriptions now. Oh, well...what can we do?)

On the last post I promised you a recipe for Crepes, and that you shall have! Here we go:
How to Make Crepes:

'Basic Crepe Batter'
4 eggs
2 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup melted butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend well. Scrape sides and blend again for 10 seconds; Or you may mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl with a whisk or mixer.
Crepes can be made in a greased 6-,7-, or 9-inch skillet or special crepe pans. If you use a crepe maker, follow the manufacturer's directions since some require the crepe to be cooked on both sides, and others just browned on one side.
If you are using a skillet, grease it with oil or butter if it is not a nonstick pan. Heat the skillet first, then pour 2 or 3 tablespoons of batter into the skillet, tilting the skillet quickly so that the batter covers the bottom of the pan before it sets. Return the skillet to medium-high heat and cook until the bottom is brown, about 1 minute. Turn the crepe carefully with a spatula and cook the other side for about 30 seconds. If the crepe tears, patch it with a little batter and continue cooking. Makes about 32 crepes.*

Crepe Fillings
Crepes can be served for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert depending on the filling. The combinations are endless, so experiment and enjoy!
For simple fillings, try butter and jam; butter, sugar and lemon juice; mashed berries and sugar; sour cream and brown sugar.
(Don't forget to dust finished product with powdered sugar!)
For a heartier meal, try filling crepes with meats, vegetables, or seafood in a basic cream sauce. Leftover bits of meat and vegetables taste great wrapped in a crepe.*

Apple Filling
1/4 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups peeled, chopped apples
2 tablespoons vanilla yogurt
1/8 teaspoon orange extract

Combine all ingredients except yogurt and orange extract in a saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and sauce is thick. Place 3 tablespoons of filling on each crepe and roll up. Combine yogurt and orange extract and top each crepe with the mixture.
Makes enough to fill 8 crepes.*

I'm going to say goodnight now. Thank you for spending this time with me today.
Blessings! Your friend, Missygirl*

My Baby Grandson's Schwinn!

Isn't it so cute?*

Question....Ever invite your dogs to a backyard barbeque? They won't turn you down.

I had a picnic outside in the backyard yesterday, I was home alone, husband was working, so I invited my dogs, they were so happy. They never complained about the food, stayed by my side the whole time (until they saw a squirrel, then the race was on, I guess at that point they assumed I needed their protection. I didn't see the danger personally, but who am I? It's a dog's life anyway.)

There's some new country songs I've heard this week. One is called 'Turnip Greens', I don't remember hearing who was singing it, I was just shocked how people can write a cool song about ANYTHING, and then I heard Brad Paisley's song: 'I'd like to check you for Ticks.' -He's about the only one who could get away with using that for a pick up line, even. - (song's called 'Ticks')
One of my favorite's is Brooks and Dunn's new one: "Hillbilly Deluxe". You know, I've just stopped trying to purge my liking for country music out of me. I just think it's great. Alot of the songs talk about the singer's love for God. Josh Turner has a real good one called, "Me & God", song talks about him and his relationship with his best friend 'God'. Isn't that just wonderful? When someone stands up and feels comfortable with a high moral standard that they believe in, it deserves to be commended. ~That's Pretty Cool, good job, Josh.~

" Be the change you want to see in the world" -Mahatma Gandhi

I read this today. Because Resurrection Day (Easter) is fast approaching and I thought you might be able to use this, I thought I'd share it: * To keep rolls, muffins, and biscuits warm longer, line your bread basket with aluminum foil, then wrap warm baked goods in a towel and pop them in the basket.*

Back in January I had mentioned about some books I purchased off of e-Bay, or Amazon. (Not positive, I so much enjoy books and I get them all over the place, it's hard to exactly remember the details) Anyway, I finished one last week, 'Elementary my Dear Watkins' by Mindy Starns Clark. It was the third and final book in the Smart Chick Series. (mystery) It was a very good book. I recommend the whole 3 book series. It was quite good. The author as well as the main characters have a grand love for The Lord. It is the same in the book I'm reading now. It's a book by Tamar Myers called, 'The Crepes of Wrath' It's one in a mystery series, too. I recommend this book also. VERY GOOD & fun. These books have recipes in them. I want to give you the recipe for crepes that is in the book but I can't tonight. I'll give it to you next time. You see, today is my dad's birthday and I want to call him and find out how his day went.
So I'll say goodbye for now, friends. Goodnight! Blessings! -Missygirl*

Just me, Missygirl*

Good morning everybody! I'm so glad to be here with you. I hope you all are doing well.
I wanted to share this with you today:

In 1842 Massachusetts enacted a law
limiting the workday for children
under the age 12 to 10 hours.*

wow. .....It was hard for me to get my kids to clean their room.
Times sure have changed haven't they?

Today seems like an awesome day to make soup. It's a little overcast; might start raining.
Actually I have some curtains I need to hem. Not really hem, I just need to make them shorter. Years ago when I originally made them, we lived in a different house with long windows and I think it wouldn't take much effort to fix them to be a perfect fit for this house. I need to quit being lazy and just do it. I might make that my goal today. It's a good one.
I have a new sewing machine that my husband got me for my birthday. I do want to learn how to sew clothes even. I have some good books for beginners and some 'easy sew' patterns for clothes in my size and everything. I'd like to be able to show my girls how to make clothes. My mother knows how, she used to make clothes for me when I was a kid. She used to make and sell cloth dolls too, I remember. I wish she lived closer to me, Washington state is a bit far to go for a sewing lesson a few times a week. I have the books so I'm sure I can do this thing. I can just keep saying that I'm not handy that way but I guess if I don't even try then I truly never will be.
*************************************

THEN AND NOW:

*THEN: Long hair.
NOW: Longing for hair.

*THEN: The perfect high.
NOW: The perfect high yield mutual fund.

*THEN: Keg.
NOW: EKG.

*THEN: Acid Rock.
NOW: Acid Reflux.

*THEN: Moving to California because it's cool.
NOW: Moving to California because it's warm.

*THEN: Getting out to a new, hip joint.
NOW: Getting a new hip joint.

*THEN: You're growing pot.
NOW: Your growing pot belly.

*THEN: Killer weed.
NOW: Weed killer.

*THEN: Hoping for a BMW.

*THEN: The Greatful Dead.

*THEN: Take acid.

*THEN: Passing the driver's test.

**************************************************

A man rushed into a barber shop, took an empty chair and said, "Cut all 3 short."
"All 3 What?" demanded the barber.
"The hair, the beard and the conversation."

*********************************************************************

FYI: If you're a coffee drinker, (well, even if you're not) you've probably heard of the Maxwell House brand. The original Maxwell House was actually a luxury hotel in Nashville, Tennesee that was known for it's excellent coffee.*

Have a wonderful day, all! You're always in my mind and heart.
Remember- we can live well each day with laughter, The Lord, friends and family and the joy that comes in the little things of life. (not exactly in that order, you know what I mean.) Blessings! -Missygirl*

We've MARCHed into a new month...Hurray!
It's getting very close to spring now. I'm glad. The beautiful flowers, the birds, the squirrels, it's all just wonderful! (our God is so great!)
Well, sit right back and you'll hear a tale....It's the story of a foul-mouthed parrot who was warned by his owner to clean up his act. The parrot just kept on cursing, the most horrible of disgusting, obscene things you would hear coming out of his beak. He kept it up until one day the owner said, "If you keep it up, I'm going to stick you in the freezer." The parrot answered him back with some very vulgar words, so the owner stuck him in the freezer for a few minutes.
After the parrot had cooled off, the owner asked if he was ready to come out and behave.
"Y-y-yes," the parrot said shivering. "J-j-just one question. What did that t-t-turkey do?"*
Blessings! -Missygirl*
